ercol Furniture Frequently Asked Questions

How can you tell if ercol furniture is real?

ercol is renowned for crafting beautiful timeless furniture that look stunning in both modern and traditional homes. Because of its timeless style, this beloved brand is often a source of inspiration for other furniture designs – and with so many designs on the market, it can be hard to be 100% sure a piece of furniture is a genuine ercol. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can identify whether a piece of ercol furniture is the real deal.

Finding an ercol label on a piece of furniture almost guarantees its authenticity. The logos may vary, as there have been several logos associated to the brand over the years. Vintage pieces may have a small blue label, or they have labels printed on metallic paper or gold roundels. On more modern pieces, lookout for a metal roundel fitted to its base. Another way to tell if ercol furniture is real is to examine the craftsmanship. Finally, the price should also be a good indicator of its authenticity. If the price is too good to be true, then it may not be genuine. Real ercol furniture is made from quality materials and should cost a bit more than other furniture pieces.

Where are ercol sofas made?

ercol’s headquarters, factory and showroom moved to Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire in 2002 and remains there today. Combining time-honoured craftsmanship with the very latest technology, ercol’s huge 16,000 square foot factory produces almost all ercol’s furniture, with the rest coming from a number of carefully selected manufacturing partners around the world. The factory has won several awards for its architectural design and environmental features.

Also based in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire is the ercol Design Studio. Here the strong in-house pool of design talent work in a highly creative environment to bring customers the very best in British design. They also invite both well-renowned and upcoming external designers to bring their unique flair to the ercol brand. Complementing the in-house designers are a team of draughtsmen who convert the designs into the detailed technical component drawings necessary to make the furniture, programmers for the CNC machines, and highly skilled craftsmen of the prototype team, who handcraft the first samples of each design.

What type of sofas do ercol make?

Often associated with the mid-20th century modern design movement, ercol’s style often uses curved lines, muted colours, and natural wood finishes to deliver a minimalist aesthetic. ercol sofas and chairs are often considered to be timeless in style, and their versatility makes them a great choice for those looking to add simple style to their home. The quality craftsmanship and timeless designs will ensure your ercol furniture lasts for years to come.
